Body is standing erect, eyes forward, upper limbs by sides, palms and toes directed forward

position lying face downward
Supine
position lying face upward
Anterior (ventral)
nearer to front surface of body
Posterior (dorsal)
nearer to back surface of the body
superior (cranial)
nearer to head
inferior (caudal)
nearer to the feet
medial
nearer to the midline of the body
lateral
further from the midline of the body
proximal
nearer to the trunk (or origin of a blood vessel)
distal
farther from trunk (or origin of a blood vessel)
superficial
nearness to the skin surface
deep
remoteness from skin surface
internal
inside a body cavity or hollow organ
external
outside a body cavity or hollow organ
