Scapula Region Flashcards
Spine
bony ridge located posteriorly
separates upraspinous and infraspinous fossae
Acromion
lateral continuation of spinal
articulates with clavicle
Coracoid process
beaklike structure medial to acromion
Glenoid fossa
superolateral shallow depression for articulation with humeral head
Subscapula fossa
found on costal (anterior) surface of scapula
Deltoid
F- major abductor of arm, flexes and medially rotates arm, extends and laterally rotates arm
O- spine and acromium of scapula , clavicle
I- humerus
N- axillary nerve (C5, C6)
Supraspinatus
F- initates abduction of arm
O- supraspinous fossa of scapula
I- greater tubercle of humerus
N- suprascapular nerve (C5, C6)
Infraspinatus
F- laterally rotates arm
O- infraspinous fossa of scapula
I- greater tubercle of humerus
N- suprascapular nerve
Teres minor
F- laterally rotates arm
O- lateral border of scapula
I- greater tubercle of humerus
N- axillary nerve ( C5, C6)
Teres major
F- adducts and medially rotates arm
O- inferolateral part of scapula
I- humerus
N- lower sub scapular nerve (C5, C6)
Subscapularis
F- medially rotes arm
O- subscaular fossa of scapula
I- lesser tubercle of humerus
N- uppper and allow sub scapular nerves (C5,C6)
What are the rotator cuff muscles?
Supraspinatus
Infraspinatus
Teresmino
Subscapularis
*SITS
What are the function of rotator cuff muscles?
hold humeral head in glenoid fossa during all movements of shoulder joints
What are the boundaries of quadrangular space?
Teres minor
Teres major
long head of triceps brachii
surgical neck of humerus
What is the importance of the quadrangular space?
Axillary nerve passes through space to supply Deltoid and Teres minor
*can be injured by fracture of surgical neck of humerus
