Chemical name

Trade/Brand name
Official, non proprietary name, not owned by any company and universally accepted
Generic name
Derived from two Greek words, Pharmakon (drug or poison) and kinesis (motion) and the study of the movement of the drug throughout the body.
PHARMACOKINETICS
Transmission of medications from the location of administration to the bloodstream.
ABSORPTION
This route is prone to first-pass effect or first-pass metabolism which means that the drug concentration is reduced as it travels, before arriving at the systemic circulation.
ORAL ROUTE
Useful for patients who have difficulty swallowing or vomiting.
RECTAL
Usually placed under the tongue and does not travel or enter inside the G.I. tract
SUBLINGUAL/BUCCAL
A drug or substance is injected into the dermis.
