Explain our project
To adress pollution of heavy metals from the NMGMs waste and operations in the water of the Tigite river, we will construct a wetland as a buffer zone using phytoremediation, monitor Barrick’s water facility upgrades, and involve the local population. We will colaborate with Barrick, Haki Rasilimali and other organisations and hopefully recieve funding from the UNDP
What are the human security issues that the project adresses?
Health security (cleaner water), food security (fishing, water for agriculture), personal (safer mining activities, collaboration with locals reducees conflict), political (locals involved more in design of project and decision making), economic (employment of locals), environmental (cleaner and healthier environment, biodiversity, habitat for animals), community (safer and more inclusive community relations)
