What are VOLUNTEERS?
- They don’t get PAID for the work they do
- they give their TIME and SKILLS
- develop a sense of COMMUNITY
Explain the word UBUNTU (what is the meaning)
- we EXIST because of others
- the COMMUNITY is more important than anything
else - there is room for EVERYONE
- room for all CULTURES,LANGUAGES, RACE
- CARE and RESPECT each other
- ## treat all with RESPECT and DIGNITY
Volunteering happens through 2 types of organisations
1) COMMUNITY based organisation
2) NON-PROFIT organisation
Explain what a COMMUNITY based organisation is and provide an example
found WITHIN the community, addressing specific needs
EXAMPLE: A church running a soup kitchen for the
homeless in the area

NOT run by the government, providing a service to the community, but DO NOT make money
They are run by VOLUNTEERS, they get money from donations or must raise funds
