What is a teratoma?
A
a type of tumour with tissue or organ components resembling derivatives of the germ layers. ectoderm is the most commonly represented layer so it is common to see ectoderm derivatives like hair or teeth within a teratoma

what are germ cell teratomas?
A
usually found in the gonads. develop from germ cells that have failed to differentiate into oocytes or sperm. they are very rare.

what are embryonal teratomas?
A
they are normally congenital so a baby is born with the tumour. they are normally found in the midline of the body.
