TENS/IFC Comp Flashcards
TENS Amplitude for acute pain
“You should feel…”
Comfortable, no muscle response
TENS Amplitude for chronic pain
“You should feel…”
Strong, but comfortable rhythmic muscle twitch
TENS Pulse rate for acute
50-80 pps
TENS Pulse rate for chronic
1-5 pps
TENS Pulse duration acute
Pulse duration for 50-100 ms
TENS Mode:
Continuous
TENS Tx time (acute)
20-60 mins
TENS Tx time (chronic)
30-40 min
TENS should have # tp # pads around the Tx area.
2-4
amplitude:
current strength or voltage
IFC pulse rate for acute pain:
80 - 150 pps
IFC pulse rate for chronic pain:
1 - 10 pps
IFC acute intensity:
to sensory comfort
IFC chronic intensity:
to visible muscle contraction
IFC pulse rate for edema/swelling:
20-50 pps
IFC edema/swelling intensity:
To visible muscle contraction (muscle pumping)
IFC Tx time acute pain:
15 - 20 minutes. Can be worn up to 24 hours at home.
IFC Tx time chronic pain:
15 - 20 minutes. 20 - 30 minutes in home use.
IFC Tx time edema/swelling:
15 - 20 minutes in clinic only.
IFC always uses # pads. It is better for larger Tx areas and longer lasting effects than TENS.
4 pads
TENS pulse duration chronic:
150-300 ms
