Federici et al (2019) EVE compared conservative and surgical treatment of luxation of the SDFT from the calcaneal tuber. What were the main findings? What was the surgical technique?
A
Conservative tx saves lives but there will be a residual mechanical lameness. Surgical tx gives the best biomechanical result but survival to hospital discharge 66.7% (6/9).
Self-tapping eyelet screws were placed into the calcaneus. Simple interrupted screws were passed through the fibrocartilagenous cap of the SDFT and through the eyelet of the screw. The repair was covered with synthetic mesh.
