Tendon Injuries Flashcards

1
Q

What is the structure of a tendon?

A

Longitudinal arrangement of cells and fibres (collagen type 1 in a triple helix)

Tendon is made up of fasicles that contain collagen bundles (epi, para and endo-tenon covering)

Q

What is a tendon sheath?

A

Flexor tendons in palm and fingers

  • Tendons connected to sheath by vincula
  • Thickenings which form strong annular pulleys

Q

How do you treat a tendon rupture?

A

Conservative

  • Where ends can be opposed
  • Where healing can occur
