Tendinopathy and Capsular Pathologies Flashcards
What is tendinopathy?
describes disorders affecting the tendons, including pain and tendon rupture
What is tendonitis?
Inflammation of the tendons
What is tendinosis?
Chronic degernation of the tendon
What is tenosynovitis?
Inflammation of the sheath- the synovium that surrounds the tendon
What is the structure of a tendon?
Between bone and muscle
Fibro elastic properties- can be deformed and return to normal
transmits forces generated by muscle to bone to elicit movement
Sigh 1 collagen fibres are tightly packed together
What is tendinopathy?
Tendinopathy is a process which describes injury to the tendon that is a result of overload beyond the capacity of that tendon
Intrinsic factors of tendinopathy
age anatomical variants- deformities systematic disease body weight laxity of joint muscle weakness or imbalance
extrinsic factors of tendinopathy
occupation sport physical lad training erros shoes environmental conditions
Pathology of tendinopathy
minimal inflammation
disorganisation of collagen fibres and increased proportion of type 3 fibres
fibres are more spread with increased ground substance
abnormally sped tenocytes with increased apoptosis
neovascularisation
inceased cellularity
What is adhesive capsulitis?
spontaneous onset of shoulder pain in combination with progressive limitation of passive and active glenohumeral joint movements, aka frozen shoulder
Causes of adhesive capsulitis
Post trauma post surgery secondary to endocrine disease- 5 x more likely idiopathic more common in women than men
What is the tendinopathy process?
Active Tendinopathy
Tendon disrepair
Degnerative Tendinopathy
