Diagnostic criteria
A
3 out of 5 Sensitivity 97 Specificity 79% * Age > 50 * new onset temporal headache * temporal artery tenderness or decreased pulse * ESR > 50 mm/h Abnormal arterial biopsy

Symptoms
A
Temporal headache
Vision loss
Jaw claudication
Systemic symptoms: (PMR)Proximal weakness pain, Sweats, fever, wgt loss, malaise, fatigue, depression
Younger px: thoracic & aortic root involvement

Signs
A
Temporal art: promient, tender, nodular, reduced or absent pulse, normal
Visual acuity decreased
Bruits: carotid, brachial
Fever, pain proximal muscles

A
ESR CRP FBE: normohromic anaemia LFT Biopsy Ultrasound coulor duplex 95% NPV

Managment
A
Ophthalmolgoy & Rheumatology consult
Prednisone 40-80 mg PO Daily or methylprednisone if visual changes
Methotrexate
