Temperature Control Flashcards
How is body temperature controlled and monitored
Thermoregulatory centre in brain
How does thermoregulatory sensors work
Where do they work
It’s centre has receptors sensitive to temperature of blood flowing through brain
Temperature receptors on skin send impulses to the thermoregulatory centre
What two things happen if the core body temperature is too high
Explain
Blood vessels supplying blood to the skin dilate so that blood flows through the capillaries and more heat is lost
Sweat glands release more sweat which evaporates
What two things happen if the core body temperature is too low
Explain
Blood vessels supplying blood to the skin (capillaries) contract to reduce blood flow
Muscles contract which needs respiration- releases energy to warm body
