Balance between heat gain and heat loss.

What is the normal range for a temperature of an adult?
A
External 36.5 - 37.5 degrees (NICE)

Name the illnesses associated with temperature
A
Hypothermia - <35 degrees, indicates sepsis
Low grade pyrexia - 37.2-38 degrees indicated inflammatory response
Medium to high grade pyrexia - 38-40 degrees, indicates respiratory infection/UTI
Hyperpyrexia - 40 degrees +, indicates hypothalamus damage

A
Gain informed consent Wash hands Use same site for comparison Place disposable cover on Place in correct position and press start Remove when indicated Read temperature and document as per NMC Code Discard the cover and switch off Discuss findings Refer if abnormal as per NMC Code
