What are the two main parts of a Telephone?
- The mouthpiece, which you speak into.
- The earpiece, which is held against your ear.
What does the mouthpiece do?
The mouthpiece contains a microphone that converts sound energy to electrical energy.
What does the earpiece do?
The earpiece is a receiver, which contains a loudspeaker. It converts electrical energy to sound.
What is an oscilloscope?
An oscilloscope is a device that makes a graph of electrical signal patterns. This graph is called a trace.
What does a signal generator do?
A signal generator makes electrical signals of known frequencies.
What is the effect on the signal pattern when changing the loudness?
The louder the sound, the bigger the height of the waves.
What is the effect on the signal pattern when changing the frequency?
The higher the frequency, the more waves appear on screen.
What does a mobile phone act as?
A mobile phone acts as a radio transmitter & receiver. When switched on, it transmits a radio signal to the nearest base station. This lets the network know where your phone is switched on, and where you are.

Your phone sends a signal to the nearest base station.

You can use it almost anywhere.
