Satellites & Mirrors Flashcards
What do Geostationary Satellites do?
Geostationary Satellites always hover above the same point on the Earth’s surface. They typically hover over the equator, but do not orbit the planet.
In which direction do Television Satellite dishes point?
Satellite dishes point South, towards the equator.
What does a mirror do to light?
A mirror reflects light.
Describe ‘in’ and ‘out’ angles.
‘In’ and ‘Out’ angles are always equal for reflection.
Describe the physical properties of a plane mirror.
A plane mirror is ‘flat’.
Describe the physical properties of a concave mirror.
A concave mirror is curved ‘in’.
Describe the physical properties of a convex mirror.
A convex mirror is curved ‘out’.
What is the ‘Focus’?
The Focus is where all reflected light rays meet.
What does metal do to radio waves?
Metal reflects radio waves in the same way a mirror reflects light.
Where is the radio signal strongest?
The radio signal is strongest at the focus.
What does the curved reflector on a Satellite do?
The curved reflector on a Satellite dish aerial reflects signals to the detector.
