TEL Section MATS 2 Flashcards
If there is a security breach or incident with any ATE equipment on or off the airfield, what shall you do?
The equipment is treated as unserviceable, until ATE completed a full security and serviceability check.
If the ILS GP fails what type of approach can a/c do
Loc only approach. If radar is avbl, range checks should be passed when LOC established & further upon request by the pilot
Visual approach
Visual Man Circling
ILS DME procedural approach
If the ILS LOC fails what type of approach can a/c do
Alternative approach using the NDB
Visual approach
NDB
Visual Man Circling
If the NDB fails what type of approach can a/c do
Visual approach
ILS
Visual Man Circling
Holding facility & approach aid, so neither will be avbl.
a/c require navigational assistance from Rad.
Procedural approaches not avbl
If the DME fails what type of approach can a/c do
Visual approach
ILS (but ATCO gives range checks)
Visual Man Circling
NDB procedural Rwy 23 only
If there is an RTF failure, what other equipment can be used
Other position, Rad 2
Standby radios
handheld in VCR, only used to close ATC operations
Can TS affect the preformance of all radio’s, navigational and electrical equipment
Yes
What are your actions if Radar Jamming is affecting radar performance
There should be a contact number on the information supplied with the exercise to contact
What do you do if both recorders have failed ?
1- Inform ATE
2- Make a written record of the summary of communications but when this becomes impossible due to peak times, ATC service may cease or flow control measures may have to be introduced.
3- ATCO i/c to send a NOTAM
How long does it take for the generator to power-up when there is a loss of power supply
30 seconds
What equipment is lost whilst the standby generator is powering up?
- DF
- NDB Monitor (the NDB will still generate)
- SFC Wind
- Met sensors
- Aerodrome lighting
What is the tolerance of the DF
+/- 5 degrees Class B (check new mats 2)
ATCOs should not transmit on 121.5 MHz unless when…
1- A pilot in distress calls a specific ATS unit that is local to the pilot concerned
or
2- It is apparent that the D&D cell is not responding to an emergency transmission
Does the DME radiate to whatever ILS system is radiating (key) on the panel in the VCR?
Yes, the DME will radiate with the coding appropriate to the runway selection on the panel in the VCR
If the LOC fails, can you leave the GP radiating without the LOC?
No, the GP should be turned off straight away
If the LOC &/or GP indicates an alarm condition, can the ILS be changed over to the reciprocol one?
No, unless ATEM instructs so
If the LOC &/or GP indicates an alarm condition, can the ILS be used?
Only a/c on final will be permitted to complete their approach. The ILS will then be taken out of service and handed to ATE
What is the protected range of the LOC
25nm protected horizontal range over a sector of 10 degrees either side of the on-course line
and
17nm protected horizontal range over a sector of 35 degrees either side of the on-course line
What is the protected range of the GP
10nm protected horizontal range over a sector of 8 degrees either side of the on-course line
