tectonics kq1 Flashcards
what is slabpull force (caused by movement of subducted crust)
edge of the plate is made of older and denser oceanic crust
Oceanic crust subducts and sinks (because it is denser) into the mantle
subducted part pulls rest of plate to move along = slab pull force
wht is convectional current
The core - hottest, heats up the material in the mantle.
2. heated mantle material expands = becomes less dense = rises towards the crust
3. mantle material reaches the crust = spreads out underneath the plates
4. mantle material drag the plates away from each other.
5. As the mantle material drags the plates = starts to cool down
6. mantle material begins to sink = drags plates towards each other (slab pull force)
7. edge of the plate with the older and denser oceanic crust to subduct underneath the other plate
8. subducted part of the plate directs the cooling mantle material to sink towards the core
9. plate will be heated again to form convectional currents = drive the whole process again
what is the core
innermost layer
solid
has the highest temperature
what is the mantle
second layer
semi molten
