Q

What are the four proofs for Alfred Wegener theory?

A

Jigsaw fit- South America and Africa fit together.

Fossil evidence- fossils that were the same begin to show different evolution.

Geologic (landform) evidence- mountains have the same age and structure on both sides of the Atlantic

Glaciation- ice sheets covered parts of Africa, India, Australia and South America

Q

What did Tuzo Wilson do?

A

advanced the Continental Drift theory by explaining how this occurred using Plate Tectonics.

  • he said that plates are floating on the mantle (magma) and different convection currents of the magma move the plates around
  • there are two types of crust: oceanic (they extend all over the earth and are broken into the 12 large and smaller plates) and continental (it moves around the top of the oceanic crustal plates)
