Q

List the Functions of the Metabolic Cart for Indirect Calorimetry.

A

An electronic tool used to measure the body’s metabolism through heat produced when the body is at rest.
Uses a process called calorimetry to get measurements.
Tell medics more about a person’s health.

7
Q

List the Functions of Indirect Calorimetry.

A

Indirect uses volumes of gases breathed in and out to measure heat/energy use, this determines REE.
It calculates the measurement of O2 uptake and CO2 production.
It can also be used to measure VO2 max.

10
Q

Explain the Metabolic Cart Method.

A

Indirect calorimetry is performed using a metabolic cart by placing the headgear, which has the breathing tubes attached to it.
The breathing tubes capture all the inspired and expired gas.
All the oxygen and carbon dioxide are continually measured and analyzed then converted into a heat equivalent.

Q

List the Issues with Reliability and Validity when using the Metabolic Cart.

A

Children - difficult to use on them, leads to inaccurate results.
Leaks in the breathing masks and tubes.
Overfeeding might occur due to inaccurate results.
Errors can occur easily when taking measurements.

16
Q

List the Minimising Threats.

A

Regularly back up the existing data.
Protect with security mechanisms - controlling access.
Limit input of invalid data - take care when entering data or use error detection/correction software for transmitting data.

17
Q

Explain the Impact of Technology on Equipment/Materials.

A

Limitations due to age/disability no longer need to create a barrier to participation.
Assistive and adapted technology is an area that is on a constant increase.

18
Q

Explain the Impact of Technology on Facilities.

A

Technological developments have meant that surfaces are now suitable for multisport provision.
