Define Quantitative.
Data that can be written down or measured precisely and numerically.
How is Quantitative Data Collected?
Through questionnaires and surveys. In sport and PE we can also get quantitative data from stop watches/heart rate monitors.
Define Qualitative.
Data that is descriptive and looks at the way people think and feel.
How is Qualitative Data Collected?
Observations and Interviews.
Define Objective Data.
Fact based information which is measurable and usable.
Define Subjective Data.
Based on personal opinion, which is less measurable and often less usable.
Define Validity.
An indication of whether the data collected actually measures what it claims.
Define Reliability.
Refers to the degree to which data collection is consistent and stable over time.
How can you test whether data is Valid?
Test it in different Environments.

Who Collects the Data?
OPTA - A company based in London that employs statisticians around the country that are specialists in their field that collect data from events to create the best predictions of sporting events.
Data is collected on ALL aspects of the game, even to the minute detail of where a batsman stands at the cricket crease.
Why is it Important?
Allows teams to prepare for their upcoming opponents without having to send scouts to each game.
Identify new tolerant more easily.
Tailor training to prepare for specific team or opponent e.g. serve and volley in tennis.
What are Video Analysis Programmes?
Coaches/athletes use video, DVD, or digital technology as a medium to analyse technique and team performance.
