There’s a difference between the “why?” and “how?” values.
Example: to understand the profit mechanism, we need to ask “why?”: “Why is it valuable/ why would customers for it?” => business models give us answers.

Discipline => spatial seperation (prison) + training (labour)
Prison cells are all around the guard tower, so prisoners do not know if they are being observed.
This refers to our modern society, as we are exposed to ideas of how we should act and look (we are constantly observed).

Alienation, because in the past = permeable self (shifted responsibility from an individual), now = responsibility to shape our own life.
Based on disembedded rationality => the need for social identity decreases, so identity becomes more flexible.

It separates us from the social environment, but Internet connects people.

What are the 2 ways of viewing science?
Neutral, objective knowledge/ socially organized and produced.
Are scientific discoveries dangerous?
Give examples.
1)Kind of => advancement of battlefield weapons => bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
2)Or sociology + biology => predicting the health of embryo => more abortions (the idea of perfect child)
3) Genetically modified food.
4) Controversial => cloning.
What is the winner takes it all model?
Relate to the AI society and the knowledge society + example
AI society => everyone can be replaced with a machine, so the maker (the top of the hierarchy) makes the majority of profit.
Knowledge society => need for educated people.
The elite is richer than ever.
Example: 1) service sector =>emplyement not increasing, because it’s the perfect environment for monopolization of AI companies.
2) law => lawyers have to go through tons of paperwork, whilst machine can do in seconds, so decline in the need of Law students.
