Values = culturally defined standards by which we observe beauty and good.
10 values: self-direction; hedonism; power; stimulation; achievement; benevolence….
Inglehart and modernization theory
There’s a link between society and values.
Values created in formative years.
Values disagree with the norms of society.
Maslow’s hierarchy of needs
Physiological needs ->Safety needs -> love and belonging -> Esteem -> Self-actualization
If one is incomplete -> can’t move on to the next level

Makes use of values, is an instrument to persuade clientele, improve confidence and decrease anxiety of employee.
What are some perceptions on values (BM)
1) Values important in dominant management discourse; autonomously chosen values, outside of action; shared values => avoiding values
2)Values - practical, emerge in intense social situations.
3)Evaluative, compelling voluntarily; provide meaning.
Norms
Restraint on behavior, act as a criterion for standards.
Formed in social interactions as well.
Evaluative, obligatory; connection to morals and ethics.
Cult values
Collective idealization that diverges attention from detail.
Reached with the use of propaganda.
Desires
Impulsive, unreflective wants.
What are the consequences of being a leader on individuality?
A leader is an individual, but also! representative of a larger group, so =>loss of autonomy.
