Techniques Of Flight Instruction Flashcards
Obstacles in Learning During Flight Instruction
(FAA WIP)
○ F - Feeling of Unfair Treatment - will not learn if they feel instructor is out to get
them.
○ A - Apathy due to adequate instruction
○ A - Anxiety
○ W - Worry or Lack of Interest
○ I - Impatience to proceed to more interesting operations
○ P - Physical discomfort, illness, fatigue, and dehydration
Demonstration-Performance Training Delivery
(ED LE)
○ Explanation Phase
○ Demonstration Phase
○ Learner Performance and Instructor Supervise
○ Evaluation
Notes
● Positive Exchange of Controls
○ must have a 3 step process to verify who has control
■ “you have flight controls”
■ “I have the flight controls”
■ “you have the flight controls”
● Sterile Cockpit
○ Avoid non-essential activities during critical phases of flight - taxi, Takeoff, landing
and all below 10,000’
● Use of Distractions
○ most spins/stall accidents occur when the learner is distracted from flying
○ FAA encourages us to have scenarios to distract people
○ Learner must be able to tell passengers when something is distracting (talking,
etc)
● Integrated Flight Instruction
○ Should be both inside 10% and outside 90% visual references
○ Form habit of scanning and traffic avoidance
● Assessment of Piloting Ability
○ keep learner informed of progress (with written records)
○ Demonstrated ability (based on ACS,PTS, Syllabus, ETC)
○ Postflight evaluations
○ Correct learner errors (not immediately, safety permitting)
Aeronautical Decision Making
(DECIDE)
○ D - Detect the problem/change
○ E - Estimate the need to counter the change
○ C - Choose a desirable outcome
○ I - Identify action needed to get the outcome
○ D - Do the thing to get the outcome
○ E - Evaluate effect of action in correcting the change
