Bowpspl
1-Back to the wall
2-Overlapping
3-With-ness
4-Positive reinforcement
5-Selective ignoring
6-Proximity Control?
7-Learning names
Back to the wall
- If you stand in middle of class, can only see 50% of class
- If you walk arounbd the outside behind your student with back to the wall, let’s students know you can see everything.
- Can detect behavior and prevent it from escalating.
Overlapping
Ability to fous on several things that are happening simultaneously and still maintain intended direction.
-5/6 students requiring teacher attention at same time, need to know how to respond to them accoirdingly and simultaneously
With-it-ness
Combined with back to the wall and proximity control
lets the student know the teacher is ‘with it’
Proximity control
Spot someone off task and simply walk to where the student is.
Look at student until they see you, look lets them know you have spotted their behavior.
Selective ignoring
-Purposely ignore someone that is behavining in a manner that is not considered
‘normal’ but may not be ‘off task’ E.G Special needs , High energy
-Talk to student after class quietly.
Positive pinpointing
Tecaher picks out someone that is modeling the desired/requested behavior
and points them out to the class
More effective with younger people
Learning names
Get a students attention by calling them across the hall by name
- Personal
- Builds rapport
