Techniques Flashcards
Muscle METs
5-7 seconds, 3-5 times
Stretch muscle to the restrictive barrier and get patient to lightly resist concentrically
Joint METs
5-7 seconds, 3-5 times
Take joint to the restrictive barrier as you would an articulation technique and get patient to lightly do the opposite movement
Counterstrain
60-90 seconds or until tissue texture change
Apply inhibition and then perform the muscle’s movement
Myofascial release
60-90 seconds or until tissue texture change
Move the muscle so that it is in a degree of its movement and perform longitudinal massage whilst moving the muscle
Articulation techniques
60-90 seconds or until tissue texture change
Just joint play movements performed in a slow, methodical manner
What do management techniques aim to achieve?
- Decrease in pain
- Promote mobility and movement
- Support tissue healing and collagen remodelling
- Promote fluid drainage
What do METs aim to do?
Engage the restrictive barrier, then re-engage the new restrictive barrier
