what does prone mean?
lying flat on stomach
what does supine mean?
lying on their back, face pointing up
what does superior mean?
towards the head - end of the body
what does inferior mean?
towards the bottom/away from the head of the body
what does medial mean?
towards the midline of the body
what does lateral mean?
towards the side of the body
what does proximal mean?
closest to the trunk, towards the attachment point LIMB
what does distal mean?
away from the trunk, away from the attachment point LIMB
what does anterior mean?
towards the front of the body
what does posterior mean?
towards the back of the body
what does ipsilateral mean?
on the same side of the body
what does contralateral mean?
on the side opposite the medial plane
what does superficial mean?
closest to the surface of the body
what does deep mean?
Away from the surface of the body
