Tech Log Flashcards
What is the Ops Con column for on the defects page?
Indicates an operationally significant defect - often manned stations procedures required.
What does the (R) prefix in the defect description mean?
Defect has been reviewed by MOC.
What happens to the four Tech Log pages?
Top White: Stays with Tech Log.
Removable White: Overnight removed by engineer or after any maintenance action.
Yellow: Only previous night’s remain until the next daily engineering check.
Pink: Removed by commander after every flight, complete or in strips.
In which situations is the pink page removed with remaining crossed out strips removed?
First flight of the aircraft’s day
Your first flight of the day, unless you receive handover from other crew
Whenever anything is entered in the Actions Taken column of the defects area
What initial actions are you required to do?
- Ensure a Certificate of Release to Service is present.
- Review Aircraft Status Report, engineering entries and damage chart.
- Ensure all CRSs have been signed on remaining pink pages.
- Confirm daily check has been completed.
What is the validity period for the daily check?
One calendar day.
Check may have been done the night before as long as it was signed off after 18:00 and the aircraft hasn’t flown since.
What are you signing for at the bottom of each strip?
Acceptance of the aircraft, it’s ADDs and quantities of fuel and oil.
What actions are required with the pages before departure of the first flight of the day?
Cross through remaining blank strips
Remove complete pink page
If engineers have annotated more pink pages, sign bottom right corner and remove these pages
There should be no pink pages remaining with writing on
What do you do if a defect occurs before departure of the first sector of the first flight?
Do not enter anything in the defects section of the current tech log page (the engineer will have removed the second white page overnight).
Start a fresh page so a record is made on all four pages.
What actions are required to record de-icing procedures?
Cross out Nil
Write “Refer to de-icing co.”
Sign
After de-icing, insert report data into de-icing section of top white page.
What do you do after completing the tech log for your last sector?
Ask the first officer to check that the tech log has been correctly filled out for the days flights. Most importantly, ensure there is a signature in the last sector strip, lack of one can ground the aircraft.
When and where should defects be entered?
What additional information should you try to remember to insert?
At the end of a sector in the defects column.
FWC phase of flight (1 - 10)
Which 3 situations allow the crew to deal with a defect without the need for an engineer?
Tick the Nil defect box as no open defects exist in these situations:
1. Most ECAM maintenance messages - can be ignored until the end of the day.
- Resetting a computer - let engineers know
- Minor issues may need “For info” - always consult with MOC to confirm diagnosis
What actions are required for serious faults, at an engineering base or down route?
Engineering base:
Ask MOC to arrange an engineer to meet the aircraft
Down route (2 options): 1. Ask MOC to call out local or sub-contracted engineer to rectify the fault
- Deal with it yourself under guidance from MOC when relevant criteria are met.
What actions are required to record a defect(s)?
Tick “As Entered”
Cross out any remaining sector strips
If a defect occurs on your last sector, inform MOC before you go off duty
