A

A

What happens to the four Tech Log pages?

A

Top White: Stays with Tech Log.
Removable White: Overnight removed by engineer or after any maintenance action.
Yellow: Only previous night’s remain until the next daily engineering check.
Pink: Removed by commander after every flight, complete or in strips.

A

First flight of the aircraft’s day

What is the validity period for the daily check?

A

One calendar day.

Check may have been done the night before as long as it was signed off after 18:00 and the aircraft hasn’t flown since.

A

Acceptance of the aircraft, it’s ADDs and quantities of fuel and oil.

Remove complete pink page

If engineers have annotated more pink pages, sign bottom right corner and remove these pages

There should be no pink pages remaining with writing on

What do you do if a defect occurs before departure of the first sector of the first flight?

A

Do not enter anything in the defects section of the current tech log page (the engineer will have removed the second white page overnight).

Start a fresh page so a record is made on all four pages.

A

Cross out Nil

Write “Refer to de-icing co.”

After de-icing, insert report data into de-icing section of top white page.

What do you do after completing the tech log for your last sector?

A

Ask the first officer to check that the tech log has been correctly filled out for the days flights. Most importantly, ensure there is a signature in the last sector strip, lack of one can ground the aircraft.

A

Tick the Nil defect box as no open defects exist in these situations:
1. Most ECAM maintenance messages - can be ignored until the end of the day.

  1. Resetting a computer - let engineers know
  2. Minor issues may need “For info” - always consult with MOC to confirm diagnosis

A

Engineering base:
Ask MOC to arrange an engineer to meet the aircraft

Down route (2 options):
1. Ask MOC to call out local or sub-contracted engineer to rectify the fault
  1. Deal with it yourself under guidance from MOC when relevant criteria are met.

  4. Basic engineering as set out under Flight Crew Authorisation in User Guide

A

Enter description in the defect column followed by “reset successful IAW” refer to manual QRH/FCOM etc.

Cross through next two columns

Continue using remaining strips as it is not treated as an open defect

A

Call MOC first to confirm the correct course of action

Insert Defect description
Enter action taken with date and signature

With no engineering cover down route having had a bird strike, what 3 conditions must be met in order to dispatch and return home?

A
  1. No deformation or cracking has occurred
  2. No unusual odours reported by pax or crew
  3. Impact is no closer than 1 metre from: Engines, Pitot heads, Static ports, Radome or pack inlets

What actions are required for an Acceptable Deferred Defect ‘Procedure A’ dispatch?

A
  1. Obtain a Work Order Number from MOC
  2. Note MEL/CDL reference with time interval, restrictions and limitations
  3. Enter description in Defect column
  4. In Action taken enter “Transfered to additional defects” - work order number - “Dispatch IAW” - MEL/CDL reference - name, signature and date
  5. Cross through remaining strips and remove complete pink page
  6. Transfer all details to Aircraft Status Sheet with exact description from tech log page.

A

Approval from MOC and Duty Pilot required
No specialized training required
No tools required
One-time get me home procedure
Sign CRS section
Raise a new open defect on a new page on arrival

What criteria must be met in order to carry out a Single Event Authorisation(SEA)- ‘Procedure C’?

A
Approval from MOC and Duty Pilot
Local engineer must have:
   At least 5 years experience
   Valid ICAO maintenance licence
   Rated on aircraft type
Re-enter defect on arrival following SEA procedure

What are the actions when the tech log runs out of pages?

A

Last page of old tech log must have first TL page number of new TL

First page of new tech log must have last TL page number of old TL

Inform MOC new TL required when you notice TL is coming to an end
