FCOM Flashcards

1
Q

How does the SRS work? (Both the 1 & 2 Engine Cases)

A

SRS – will engage if: V2 entered Go Around
Slats extended
a/c been on ground for > 30secs
SRS maintains V2 + 10kts
If OEI maintains highest of V2 or current speed (max V2 + 15kts)
SRS limits pitch to +18o or +22.5oif windshear

Go-around case: Maintains current speed or Vapp whichever is higher.
Limited to; VLS+25kts, or in OEI case VLS+15kts
Must have flap lever set to min Config 1 and TOGA selected on at least one thrust lever.

Q

What does OPT ALT mean on FMGC PROG page?

A

OPT FL indicates the optimum flight level based on:
o Current GW
o cost index
o Temperature
o Wind
It is continuously updated in flight. It requires a 15-minute minimum cruise time.
The OPT FL is a compromise between fuel and time saving.
QRH/FCOM tables are for a given Mach & do not consider CI, hence differ from FMGC.

Q

Where must the Thrust Levers be before the Auto Brake Max activates?

A

In the case of an aborted takeoff, maximum pressure goes to the brakes, as soon as the system generates the ground spoiler deployment order.

  • If the ground spoilers are armed and the speed exceeds 72 knots, the ground spoilers will automatically extend as soon as both thrust levers are reset to idle
  • If the ground spoilers are not armed and the speed exceeds 72 knots, the ground spoilers will automatically extend as soon as reverse is selected on one engine (the other thrust lever remains at idle).

So if RTO <72kts = no spoiler extension = no auto brake

16
Q

Name the 4 different levels of braking depending of failures?

A
  • Normal Braking
  • Alternate Braking with anti-skid.
  • Alternate Braking without anti-skid
  • Parking brake
17
Q

How is anti-skid deactivated?

A

o Electrically: The Anti-skid/NWS switch OFF, power supply failure or BSCU failure. Or
o Hydraulically: Failure of Green and Yellow Hydraulic systems.

18
Q

Is auto-brake available on the alternate brake system?

A

No

19
Q

Difference between OPEN CLB and CLB?

A

OPEN CLB: Ignores Altitude Constraints up to FCU selected Altitude.
CLB:Respects the Altitude Constraints up to the FCU selected Altitude.
Both control speed via AP/FD Pitch control & A/THR maintains Max Climb Thrust in both cases

20
Q

CLB/ALT* then new FL given, what happens?

A

Mode reversion. Engages V/S at the current Vertical Speed.

21
Q

What are the potential problems with the V/S mode?

A

The V/S (FPA) guidance has priority over speed guidance.
Excessive V/S in CLB – Speed may fall to VLS
Excessive V/S in DES – Speed may increase to Vmax
When speed reaches its authorised limit, V/S automatically decreases to maintain the min/max speed.

22
Q

Autoland red light: conditions for illumination?

A
  • Both A/P’s fail
  • LOC fails above 15ft
  • G/S fails above 100ft
  • Deviation. LOC (1/4 dot above 15’) or G/S (1 dot above 100’) also LOC & G/S scales flash on PFD
  • Difference between Rad Alts > 15ft
23
Q

Can you re-engage a CB in flight that has tripped off by itself?

A

Do not re-engage in flight if CB tripped by itself, unless the Captain judges it necessary to be so for the safe continuation of the flight. Only as a last resort and only one re-engagement should be attempted.
On the ground do not re-engage the C/B on any fuel pump.

24
Q

If you have a RA 1 + 2 failure, can you intercept the Localiser and Glide slope?

A
  • LOC Mode only available (ILS APPR mode cannot be engaged.)

Fly manually to cat 1 minima or LOC/DME procedure may be used to relevant minima.

25
Q

Will the Ignition come on automatically when the engine anti-ice is put on?

A

No

26
Q

What does FMS/GPS POS DISAGREE mean?

A

ECAM displayed when the FMS and GPS positions differ by more than:
-A latitude threshold of 0.5 min, regardless of latitude
-A longitude threshold that depends on the latitude:
• 0.5 min between 55⁰ N and 55⁰ S
• 0.9 min between 55⁰ and 70⁰

27
Q

Describe the A320 ‘High Speed Protection’ system.

A
  • Activated at or above Vmo/Mmo
  • Sidestick nose down authority reduced
  • Permanent nose-up order is applied
  • Spiral static stability is reduced to 0⁰ bank angle (instead of 33⁰)
  • Bank angle limit reduced to 40⁰ (instead of 67⁰)
28
Q

What are the GPWS inputs?

A
  • RA1
  • ADIRS1
  • ILS1
  • FMGC1
  • FCU1+2
  • LGCIU1
  • SGCC1
29
Q

What are the GPWS warning Modes & when are they active?

A

Generates aural & visual warnings between Rad Alts 30 feet and 2,540 feet.
• Mode 1:Excessive rate of Descent
• Mode 2:Excessive Terrain Closure Rate
• Mode 3:Altitude Loss after takeoff or go-around.
• Mode 4:Unsafe Terrain Clearance when not in Landing Configuration.
• Mode 5:Too far below glideslope.

30
Q

How many Slat and Flap surfaces are there?

A

5 Slat surfaces

2 Flap surfaces

31
Q

How many SFCCs are there and how are they configured?

A

2 SFCCs

Each has 1 flap and 1 slat channel

32
Q

Describe the PCU that operates slats and flaps

A

The Power Control Unit consists of 2 independent hydraulic motors coupled by a differential gear box
Slats use GREEN and BLUE hydraulics
Flaps use GREEN and YELLOW hydraulics

33
Q

What is the function of Pressure Off Brakes(POBs)?

A

POBs lock the transmission when surfaces in position or hydraulics fail

34
Q

What do Assymetry Position Pick-off Units (APPUs) do?

A

APPUs measure asymmetry between left & right wings

35
Q

When are Wing Tip Brakes (WTBs) activated and which hydraulic systems power them?

A

WTBs are activated in case of asymmetry, mechanism over-speed and symmetrical runaway or uncommanded movement.
WTBs cannot be released in flight.

Right Wing -> BLUE & GREEN, Slats and Flaps
Left Wing -> BLUE & YELLOW, Slats and Flaps

36
Q

Can Flaps be operated if the Slats WTB is activated?

A

Yes. And vice versa.
