What is the definition of Teamworking?
A group of people who have formed to achieve a common goal
What are features of effective teams?
Team composition - Having a good mix of skills and personalities e.g. different ages and abilities + Allows for sharing knowledge and skills | Size of team - If the team is too big then it slows down the work rate and sub groups form + A team that is too small might not generate enough ideas (Belbin states 4-6 ideal size) | Team development - How quickly the team gel together + Teams that have worked together before will be able to get on to tasks quicker + The longer the team is together the more effective it is likely to be | Task clarity - The task given must be clear so that the team can complete it efficiently + Team members have clearly defined roles | Shared goals - All team members must be working towards the same targets | Communication - Encouraged to suggest ideas and opinions and are prepared to compromise | Environment - Must have a positive and productive environment and a good attitude to taking risks | Nature of task - how challenging or structured the task is eg if the team believe in it | Good leadership - An effective leader who can motivate and coordinate the team and minimise conflict

What are benefits of good team leadership?
Team members will feel more motivated and have job satisfaction leading to better productivity | Good communication and delegated roles leads to better decision making | Keeps team on track to achieve targets and meet deadlines

Ideas person TO solve problems and bring out creativity | Motivator TO drive the team forward | Organiser TO plan and coordinate activities | Implementer TO turn ideas into actions | Checker TO monitor tasks are carried out correctly | Finisher TO ensure tasks are completed on time | Team player TO bring group together and minimise conflict
What is the forming stage in team development?
Team members are introduced and unsure of individual roles and responsibilities | The team leader will direct and make most decisions at this stage
What is the storming stage in team development?
Members adjust and compete for roles | Could be some disputes and power struggles - strong leadership is required
What is the norming stage in team development?
Members start to work together and for each other being more supportive | Conflicts are resolved and decisions are made as a team
What is the performing stage in team development?
Team is settled and has a shared vision | The team is able to work towards achieving their goal
What are skills/qualities of a team member or leader?
Motivational - To other members of the team to encourage them to meet targets | Supportive - To other members to build up trust within the team and reduce stress | Conflict resolution - Be able to put disputes aside and minimise conflicts | Willing to learn - Willing to take on development and additional responsibilities and learn from one another | Listening - Considering other people’s views and ideas | Communication - Verbally and in writing so that team members will understand role/what is expected
