Taxiing Flashcards
Use of power whilst taxiing
Increase power to begin to taxi, once moving the power can then be decreased to maintain speed
Braking whilst taxiing
When braking no power should be applied
Crossing small ditches / ridges whilst taxiing
Cross at an angle to minimise stress to the undercarriage
Who has right of way:
- landing a/c
- a/c on ground
Landing a/c
Who has right of way when a/c are taxiing and approaching head on
Each should turn right
Who has right of way when 2 a/c are taxiing on converging courses
The one the has the other on their right should giveaway and avoid crossing ahead of the other a/c unless passing well clear
Who has right of way when an a/c is being overtaken by another
The a/c that is being overtaken should be given right of way and the overtaking a/c should keep well clear of the other a/c
Brake failure during taxi
Close the throttle and steer away from other a/c and obstacles and towards a high friction surface if possible. When stopped chock the a/c
If a collision is imminent:
- Mixture control to IDLE cut off
- Fuel selector valve OFF
- Ignition OFF
- Master switch OFF
Checks whilst taxiing
- Check brakes smoothly and evenly
- Check rudder for free movement
- Check directional flight instruments
Check directional flight instruments (taxi check)
Turning left:
- DI = decreasing
- Compass = decreasing
- TC / TI = left and ball right
- AH = level
