Checks Flashcards
Before preflight inspection
- Documents (FARTW)
- Lower flaps
- Collect dip stick + fuel drainer
Preflight inspection - Wings
- Check flap
- Check aileron
- Check wingtip lights
- Check leading edge for any dents, surface contamination and general condition
- Dip tank
- Complete a fuel drain
- Check tyres (no bald spots and not flat)
- Check brake lines are fastened correctly and not leaking
Preflight inspection of wing - checking flaps
Ensure there is a little wiggle and all hinges are correctly fastened, actuating rod is fastened correctly and also has a little bit of wiggle in it
Preflight inspection of wing - checking ailerons
Moving ailerons, check full and free movement. Then move up and hold secure with one hand (to ensure the wind doesn’t catch it). Check the actuating rod to make sure it is fastened correctly and has little bit of wiggle in it
Required documents (FARTW)
- Flight Manual
- Airworthiness certificate
- Radio approval levels
- Tech log
- Weight & Balance data
Preflight inspection of wing fuel check
You are checking for colour contaminants and water globules (water will present a clear colour and smell different to AVGAS)
CCPPP
- Cocks (on correct tank)
- Contents (sufficient fuel remaining)
- Pump (ON, below 1000 feet or in circuit)
- Pressure (in green range)
- Primer (locked)
HASELL checks
- Height (sufficient to recover minimum 3000ft)
- Airframe (lights ON, correct configuration)
- Security (Hatches and harnesses secure)
- Engine (T+P’s green)
- Location (not over a built-up area)
- Lookout (180 degree turn or 2x 90 degree turns)
HELL check
- Height (sufficient to recover minimum 3000ft)
- Engine (T+P’s green)
- Location (not over a built-up area)
- Lookout (180 degree turn or 2x 90 degree turns)
BARE brief
BARE Brief:
- Brief (brief departure procedure)
- Altitude (QNH set, reaffirm what height you are climbing to)
- Radios (change to tower frequency, set next radio frequency)
- Emergency (Engine failure brief:
Engine failure on the take-off roll; Close throttle and stop. Engine failure after take-off with sufficient runway; close throttle and re-land.
Engine failure after take-off with insufficient runway; check forward, carb heat ON, close the
throttle, select landing spot within windscreen. MAYDAY and FMI if time permits.)
