TAWS/GCAS/RADAR Flashcards
Which are the only 2 GCAS warnings that can be inhibited?
GLIDESLOPE
TOO LOW FLAPS
What are the 3 states of GCAS operation?
Power up
Ground
Flight
When is the aircraft takeoff configuration checked?
WOW and any 3 power levers are above 40 degrees
What are the 2 GCAS mission modes?
Normal
Tactical
What’s the difference between normal and tactical mode for the GCAS?
Normal - based on normal flight profiles / optimized to detect CFIT and unsafe flight conditions
Tactical - allow more aggressive, tactically oriented flight
How many different GCAS modes of operation are there?
8
Describe Mode 1 - Excessive Descent Rate
Whenever ac between 30 and 2450 AGL
Inner and outer envelope provided (both altered when in tactical and gear down / inhibited when in tactical and gear up)
Outer envelope - SINK RATE
Inner envelope - PULL UP
Describe Mode 2 - Excessive Terrain Closure Rate
Based on RADALT and how quickly Radar altitude is decreasing
Envelope adjusted based on configuration and speed
If penetrated - TERRAIN TERRAIN
if not exited and if flaps and gear are up and not in tactical mode - WHOOP WHOOP PULL UP
Describe Mode 3 - Excessive Altitude Loss After Takeoff
30 to 2450 AGL - DONT SINK
disabled if both gear and flaps are down
disabled if in tactical mode and above 200 ft
Describe Mode 4 - Unsafe Terrain Clearance
Mode 4A/B
TOO LOW GEAR - airspeed below 178 and below 400 AGL
TOO LOW TERRAIN
Tactical - lowered to 150 AGL
Mode 4C
