Tanker Familiarisation Flashcards
Types of TANKERS?
- Crude Carriers,
- Floating Storage, production and off take tankers
- Black Product Carriers
- Clean Product Carriers
What are liquid petroleum tankers made to do?
To load, carry and discharge safely, liquid petroleum cargoes.
What is DWT?
Dead weight tonnage - measure of how much weight a ship can carry.
Crude Carrier info?
Size varies from 25,000 to 400,000 DWT.
Popular size of ships are from 150,000 to 250,000 DWT (V LLCs) or (ULC Cs)
What are V LCCs and U LCCs?
Ultra large crude carriers.
Very large crude carriers.
What are FPSOs?
Floating storage, production and off take tankers.
Utilized in offshore oil industry where water depth or environmental conditions make fixed instillations unrealistic.
Black product carriers info?
Refined products - black and clean
Usually around 50,000 DWT, cargo systems required are not sophisticated.
Clean Product Carriers info?
Usually have issues such as cargo contamination resulting in off specification delivery.
Range from 1000 DWT to 30,000 DWT.
How are clean product carriers designed?
Entire design is set to avoid problems of cross contamination so have
- HIGH DEGREE OF SEGREGATION
- INDEPENDENT VENTING SYSTEMS
- DEEP WELL PUMPS
- LARGE NUMBER OF SMALL TANKS.
Fully Pressurized Gas Carriers?
Fitted with 2 to 3 cargo tanks of capacities between 3,500 to 7,500 m^3.
Cost effective way of moving LPG to and from smaller gas terminals.
Semi Pressurized Ships?
Gases Carried in a semi pressurized /refrigerated state.
Gives high flexibility in cargo handling.
Fully refrigerated ships?
Carry gases at low temperatures and atmospheric between terminals.
Suitable to carry large volumes of LPG and ammonia also vinyl chloride due to prismatic tanks.
Range from 20,000 to 100,000 m^3.
LNG Carriers?
Liquified Natural Gas Carriers.
Between 125,000 to 135,000 m^3.
