What is a Contingency plan?
All ships under ISM Code are required to create an emergency response and have regular drills.
What is ISM Code?
The purpose of the International Safety Management (ISM) Code is to provide an international standard for the safe management and operation of ships and for pollution prevention.
What is a Muster List?
Details Specific actions to be taken by the crew in event of an emergency.
General Emergency Alarm?
7 short blasts/ maybe more and one long blast of the ships whistle.
Fire Alarm?
CONTINUOUS ringing of the fire alarm.
Abandon Ship Alarm?
Given VERBALLY by the MASTER
Man overboard Alarm?
THREE LONG blasts of the ships whistle.
Shipboard Organisation?
Master is responsible for all the crew.
Chief Officer - Deck Officer - Bosun - Deck Rating
Training and Drills are a requirement of what?
It’s a requirement of SOLAS, Chapter 3, Reg 19
Also, by ISM Code.
How often are drills performed?
Every crew member will participate in at least one abandoned ship and one fire drill every month.
Also held within 24 hours after leaving port if over 25% of the crew have changed.
Upon finding an emergency you do what?
Assess the situation. Raise the alarm such as a MAC(manually activated point) Keep self out of danger Assist casualties if possible Prevent situation worsening Report to appropriate Muster Point
