Where did the rich children receive an education (Boys and girls) ?
At home with private tutors.
Boys- hunting, maths, languages
Girls- singing, dancing, languages, literatures
What were petty schools?
Small local schools that provided a basic education up the age of 8.
What was taught at petty schools?
Basic reading, writing and sometimes maths. Strong religious focus.
Who attended petty schools?
Mostly boys but some girls
How many grammar schools were set up under Elizabeth?

What sort of children attended grammar schools?
Latin, classical literature and Greek. Also arithmetic. Some grammar schools taught craftsmanship/business skills.
Could girls get an education?
Very few did expect the very rich. However there were some Dame schools for middle school girls.
What were the two main universities boys attended?
Oxford and Cambridge
What did the students study at university?
Arithmetic, Greek, astronomy, philosophy and theology. All courses were conducted in Latin.
What did the rich do for entertainment?
Hunting deer, fencing, tennis and hawking.

- The poor paid a penny to stand in the pit.
- The rich sat in a gallery.

She set up her own acting company, the Queen’s Men.
