Name the legislation governing MC-ing

What is a dangerous dog?
dogs causing serious injury req. medical or vet attention, eg. broken bone, laceration, total/partial loss of sensation or function to body part, cosmetic surgery

Has rushed at (approached w/in 3m in aggressive manner) or chased a person or caused non-serious bite injury to animal or person

Describe the two radio frequency categories of MC
FDXA: Trovan, Destron & Avid (non-encrypted)
FDXB: ISO compliant chips
Describe the MC scanning procedure
- Check scanner is operating correctly by scanning reference chip
- Hold scanner no more than 5cm from skin
- Scan slowly; no more than 50cm per second
- Conduct 2 sweeps of animal from back of head => middle of back, shoulders elbow => elbow
- If chip detected, keep scanning to check for 2nd chip
What needs to be considered when preparing for implantation?
- secure location
- informed consent
- behavioural/temperament assessment, physical exam
- cleanliness of injection site
- Restraint
- Prescribed ID info
- current meds or disease (bleeding disorders)
What is prescribed identifying information?
Owners contact details Address where animal is kept Animal details including age, sex, colour, status etc. Is dog a declared dog Microchip number Implanter number Municipality of residence
If a MC is detected, you should:
- NOT implant another chip
- notify registry & get owner deets
- provide registry with deets of person presenting animal
- if person presenting is not owner, must contact owner
- may provide presenter with change of ownership form
- proof of ownership & consent from previous owner req. by registry
A second MC may be implanted if:
- animal is being exported
- ID number does not uniquely ID animal
- MC no longer working
- MC has migrated out of scanning region
Where are MC implanted into?
Subcut layer (hypodermis), penetrating through epidermis & dermis
At what angle should a MC be implanted?
45˚
s the approved implanter you must complete the following details on the microchip form:
Your name
Your business address
Your implanter number
The implanter number and name of your supervising veterinarian
The microchip identification number and identification number of any other microchip found
The date of implantation
You must also check all other information completed by the owner or agen is correct and legible
