T Cells - Week 4 PBL Flashcards
Where are T cells produced?
Thymus gland
What rearrangement feature is important in adaptive immunity and which cells does it occur in?
Gene rearrangement
B and T cells
How does gene arrangement work in T cells?
VDJC components determine variety in binding sites on T cell for antigen binding specificity
What is clonal expansion?
Rapid proliferation of B cell for antibody production
What is antigen presentation?
Antigens broken down within cells and presented on plasma membrane on antigen presenting cells (macrophages and dendritic cells) MHC proteins involved in this.
What allows T helper cells to proliferate?
T helper cells binding successfully onto antigen presenting cells
Why must T cells also bind to antigens presented on B cells too?
To agree on the antibody that needs to be produced. (To not waste resources and energy)
What is co stimulation?
Induction of cytokine secretion from the T cell. This allows the B cell to proliferate
What do T cells do after co stimulation has occurred?
T cells continue to bind to B memory cells. Causing more proliferation of B cells. Making more memory and plasma cells.
