B Cells - week 4 PBL Flashcards
Where do B cells originate from?
Bone marrow
Function of B cells?
Identify foreign antigens
B cell processes and presents antigen on surface
Helper T cell binds to antigen
T cell secrete lymphokines and B cells divide into Plasma cells (antibody production) or B memory cells
What immunoglobulin is first secreted when vaccine antigen is presented to the body ?
IgM - innate immune system
After 11 days of vaccine antigen introduction what immunoglobulins are produced?
IgG - adaptive immune system
What happens to immune response when the same antigen is introduced again?
Much more rapid response
Mainly IgG antibodies
Slower decline in antibody production
Role of IgG, IgE, IgA?
IgG: in blood supply, circulating, attaching to pathogens
IgE: getting rid of parasites on skin and mucosal surfaces. Relates to MAST and eosinophil cells
IgA: secreted across mucosal surfaces to pick up pathogens before they enter the body
