Demand characteristics:
When the participants know the aim of the study and act in a socially desirable way. (Avoid: using deception )
Expectancy effect:
the participant attempt to act in a certain way to “help” the researcher
Screw you effect:
the participant attempt to act in a certain way to destroy the credibility of the study
Social desirability effect:
• When participant answers in a way that makes him look good to the researcher
Participant variability:
when characteristics of the sample affect the dependent variable. (this can be controlled by random allocation)
Researcher/Experimenter bias:
When the expectations of the researcher consciously or unconsciously affect the findings of the study
Double-blind control:
A way to avoid biases
Both participant and the experimenter don’t know the aim of the study
