PAD (peripheral artery disease)
no/limited edema
cold
yes pulse, also possibly diminished
skin = pale, dry, hairless, scaly
sores – decubitus? gangrene? poor healing for wounds
intermittent claudication
PVD (peripheral vascular disease) (?)
limited –> alot of edema
warm
pulse = not palpable, or slight
skin –> red
stasis dermatitis
(aka gravitational dermatitis, venous eczema, and venous stasis dermatitis)
sores? possibly shallow
“venous ulcers”
special tests
VARICOSE VEINS:
manual compresion test
leg raise test
CARDIOVASCULAR:
capillary refill test
allen’s test
DVT:
Homan’s test
edema:
pitted edema test
skin integrity test
standalone test
consider these case hx q for CVD
last time BP checked?
ADLs + intensity
any pain during activity (claudication)
chest pain Hx?
family Hx?
HYPERTENSION 3/4 w/ meds
tx without prone
hyper tension 3/4, w/o meds
no tx
refer to doctor
seated, clothed tx – hypertension 3/4, no meds
possibly can be done
still must be careful and ask for pt physician permission
