What is SLE?
A
Autoimmune disease - inadequate T cell suppressor activity with increased B cell activity

What are the common signs and symptoms of SLE?
A
SOAPBRAIN Serositis - pleurisy, pericarditis Oral ulcers Arthritis - small joints Photosensitivity - or malar/discoid rash Blood disorders - low WCC, thrombocytopenia, haemolytic anaemia Renal involvement - glomerulonephritis Autoantibodies (ANA) Immunologic tests Neurologic disorder - seizures or psychosis

What are the investigations in SLE?
A
Raised ESR, anaemia and leukopenia, ANA +ve, Anti-Ro, Anti-La

What is the management for SLE?
A
Sun protection
Hydroxychloroquine for rash and arthralgia
Mycophenolate mofetil, azathioprine, rituximab
Short course prednisolone for flare ups

What are the risk factors for SLE?
A
Female, early adulthood, people of colour, family history
