Syncope Evaluation

Question 1

What diagnostic testing do you order? - Syncope

Answer 1

EKG
Chemistries (glucose, oximeter, CBC, cardiac enzymes).
Echo if murmur is present
Head CT (if neurological exam is focal, there is a history of head trauma due to the syncope, headache, or seizure).
If seizure is suspected also do EEG

Question 2

If after initial testing you do not have an answer what do you order? -Syncope

Answer 2

Holter monitor (outpatient)
Telemetry (inpatient)
Repeat CK-MB & troponin (4 hrs later)
Urine & blood toxicology
