What do positive symptoms mean?
Symptoms which add to a persons behaviour.
What are the four positive symptoms?
Delusion, Hallucinations, Disorganised thinking (Speech) and Grossly disorganised or abnormal motor behaviour.
What are negative symptoms?
Symptoms which take away from behaviour.
What might negative symptoms include?
Diminished emotional expression and avolition (reduction in self-initiated actions).
How many subtypes did DSM IV have and how many did ICD 10 have?
DSM IV: 5
ICD 10: 7
How many symptoms must be present according to the DSM and for how long?
Two or more symptoms, each present for the significant proportion of a month. One of these must be delusions, hallucinations or disorganised thinking. There must be continuous signs of disturbance for at least six months.
How does ICD differ in regards to time period?
Symptoms must only be present in the one month period.
