Q

What does Fritch’s cognitive deficit model suggest?

A

We have a deficit in the Central Monitoring System (CMS). This labels actions as done by me or external. A defect means we cannot detect if our inner voice is done by us and leads to hallucinations. We also have a faulty filtering process which means we cannot filter out irrelevant information leading to over-dramatising.

Q

What does Shallice’s model suggest?

A

There are two types of actions, self-willed and external stimuli. Schiz patients have a defect in the Supervisory Attention System (SAS) and hence we are unable to generate self-willed actions.

Q

What does the schizophrenogenic family model suggest?

A

Families with high emotional tension, many secrets, and conspiracies, particularly those with a conflict causing mother will encourage the development of psychotics symptoms.

Q

What does the double bind theory suggest?

A

If children are faced with conflicting injunctions without having opportunity to respond means children will perceive all environmental stimuli as contradictory. This inability to distinguish between stimuli leads to schizophrenic symptoms.

Q

What does the expressed emotion theory suggest?

A

Home with high expressed emotion are likely to encourage greater relapse rates. The three dimensions of EE are:

  1. Hostility
  2. Critical comments
  3. Emotional over-involvement.
