What is the use of CBT?
To treat schizophrenia.
What is the rationale of CBT?
Schizophrenia is caused, or at least maintained, by irrational beliefs.
What is the aim of CBT?
To address and change the patients’ beliefs and thought processes which contribute to their symptoms.
What is the process of CBT?
There are flexible sessions with a therapist. A patient generally has between 12-20 sessions.
What is an example of CBT?
Rational emotive behavioural therapy.
What are the three stages addressed by REBT?
Activating event.
Belief.
Consequences.
What are a few techniques used by REBT?
Goal setting, normalisation of beliefs, decatastrophising the condition.
What is the rationale of Family Intervention?
Dysfunctional families which display high EE are morel likely to cause a patient to relapse.
What is the aim of family intervention?
To teach family members ways to combat emotions without displaying EE and to identify the early signs of relapse to reduce severity.
What is the procedure of family intervention?
There are educational sessions for families, where they learn the best ways to deal with the patient. There are group meetings. There are family sessions whereby professionals will talk about the family’s concerns.
