- infection becomes an abscess, causes the nodes to swell
- large, hot, painful and visible
- will rupture open and drain infectious pus either externally or internally
- nasal discharge changes from clear to odorless whitish yellow or yellow green pus when abscess rupture begins
- pus is projected through coughing and general draining
