What is syllogism?
Syllogism is an act of thought by which from two given proposition we proceed to a third statement..
The truth of the third statement follows from the truth of the two given statement.
Categorical position consist of ?
Consist of two premises and one conclusion.
How many terms are in syllogism and their symbol.
Major term(P) Minor term (S) Middle term(M)
What is the major term
Major terms are terms that appears in the predicate of the conclusion.
What is the minor term
Minor term appears in the subject of the conclusion.
What is the middle term

What are the 8 rules of categorical syllogism.
- Only three terms may appear in the syllogism
- There is no middle term in conclusion
- The middle term must appear at least once in the premises.
- At least one of the premise must be true nothing can be inferred from two negative premises.
- If one of the premises is negative then the conclusion must be negative.. If one is particular, the conclusion must be particular.
- No conclusion can be drawn form two particular premises at least one of the premises must be universal..
- Neither the major or minor term be a universal in the conclusion if it was particular in the premises.
- If both premises are affirmative, the conclusion must be affirmative.
What is a figure.?
A figure is the position of the middle term in the syllogism.
What are the types of figures
First figure
Second Figure
Third Figure
Fourth Figure
Explain the figures.
First figure: the middle term is subject of the major premise and the predicate of the minor premise
Second Figure: the middle term is the predicate of both premises.
Third figure: the middle term is the subject of both premises
Fourth figure: the middle term is the predicate of the major premise and the subject of the minor.
