What are monosyllabic and multisyllabic words?
Mono= 1 syllable Multi= more than 1 syllable in the word.
What is the nucleus of a syllable?
Vowel
What is the sound before the nucleus called?
Onset.
What is the rhyme and what makes it up?
Rhyme= vowel and any consonants after.
Made up of the nucleus and coda.
What is ambisyllabicity?
Segment at junction of two syllables have equal affiliation to both (ie. when you are unsure exactly where the syllable begins and ends)
What is phonotactics?
The sequence of sounds that are allowed within a syllable. Which sounds can occur in which positions (eg. no /h/ in word final position in English)
What does allophonic mean?
Small differences in consonant (or vowel) sounds that speakers of a language rarely notice (eg. retroflex t)
