Switching Contraception Flashcards
Either from COC to POP or from POP to COC
Switch directly from one pill to another - do not miss a day
From COC to the patch or ring
Start patch day before the last pill
Start ring day after the last pill
DO NOT NEED TO COMPLETE PILL CYCLE TO SWITCH
From Patch or Ring to COC
Start day before scheduled removal of patch/ring ( no more than 8 days after last patch or 34 days after last ring)
Do not need to complete full cycle before switching
From Patch to Ring
insert ring and remove patch on the same day
From Ring to patch
Apply Patch 2 days before ring removal
From COC, Patch, Ring to Hormonal IUD or Depo
Continue COC Patch or ring for 7 days ( or use barrier)
Copper IUD to Hormonal IUD or Depo
IUD - Use barrier for 7 days
Depo - Give injection 7 days before removal or uses barrier for 7 days after injection
Hormonal IUD or Depo - COC, Patch, Ring
Start method 7 days before Injection due date or IUD removal
COC, Patch, Ring -> Copper IUD
Can insert the copper IUD up to 5 days after stopping the others ( I suspect you can insert when you are still on them too )
Hormonal IUD ->Copper IUD
Can insert right after Hormonal IUD removal
Depo Injection -> Copper IUD
Can insert up to 12 weeks after the last shot without concern about missed contraception
