What is a SWA01 used for? (5)
- Pass a failed or imperfectly displayed Departure Signal.
- Pass a signal or block entry board to enter a protected work area using blocking or track and time permit (Mis. 60).
- Pass a starting signal or BEB to enter the wrong line (includes SPAD).
- Set back within a block section.
- Authorise a train to work in either direction in a section.

- Ensure section is clear with no opposing movements.
- Advise opposing trains at crossing stations of SWA intentions.

- Route / points correctly set.
- If setting back, check if pilot is required.
What are the precautions and checks before issuing a SWA02? (6)
- Verify disabled train location.
- Establish where relief is coming from.
- Confirm if protection is being used.
- Check the authority will not conflict with other train/track occupancies.
- Check and confirm the route is correctly set and protected.
- Undertake additional checks if disabled train is setting back to station in the rear. (No following movements or conflicting track occupancies).
What are the precautions and checks before issuing a SWA03? (5)
- Confirm identity and location of operator of MTMV/Work train.
- Cross check with any signaller controlling entry into the PWA.
- Confirm with RPO that it is safe and there is a clear understanding before starting SWA03 issue process.
- Check and confirm route is correctly set and protected.
- Include “RPO authority also required” in clause 7 is applicable.
What are the steps in the process for preparing and transmitting a SWA01? (5)
- Blocking.
- Draw SWA01 on diagram.
- Prepare SWA01 and put authority number on diagram.
- Transmit to signaller and obtain correct read back.
- Transmit to operator and obtain correct read back.
